Local Blogs ‘N Stuff

On the Strip!

On the Strip!

Every now and then I like to remind everyone of the other great food and wine related blogs and websites we have in this town. In all honesty there aren’t that many, so it’s important that we let you guys know who we are from time to time!

Do you like reading reviews of those magical restaurants of legend that you just *know* that you’ll probably never be able to afford? Do you like reading about the most star-studded galas, the newest celebrity chefs, and the occasional rant about the horrible restaurant that’s out to get your wallet? If the answer is yes to any one of these, then you must read Eating Las Vegas, written by my good friend, John Curtas.

John not only writes about everything culinary nearly every day (he’s very, um, *compulsive*), but it’s always a vicarious thrill as you read about his foodie adventures. John’s style is, like him, razor sharp and to the point. There are also links to his reviews on KNPR and KLAS, where he gives a short TV review every week. Tune in!

Now it’s not because of the fact that I’m the current Featured Wine Person that I’m mentioning Chuck Moncrieff’s website, Vegas Wine News! He’s been a link forever from my site! But Chuck is a Guest Author, who was glad to step up the plate when I made a call for Guest Authors several months ago. I’ve been told that there are many stories on the drawing board, and I’m still eagerly waiting for more. By the way, the picture of me on his site was taken shortly after my surgery, about 25 pounds ago. I’m slimmer and shaggier now!

But I digress.

Chuck is very well traveled, and his site reflects it. His travel page alone makes visiting his site worthwhile. The current showcased destination is Campania, Italy, and the pictures are breathtaking. His descriptions of his travels will have you wishing that you were there! Chuck happily showcases local wine and culinary businesses in the local area, and his site is a very good read. My only complaint is that he only publishes every other month. I wish it was more! He’s an excellent writer, and his background in law shows with his prescise wording and attention to detail. I love that stuff!

The other “Grandfather” wine blog in Vegas is written by my two friends, Scott and Elaine Harris. They do a lot of traveling, a lot of interviewing, and keep their blog, Vino Las Vegas, updated regularly. They spend a lot of time at many of the local culinary events, and it’s fun to see and hear the interviews of the local chefs (and some not so local) on their site. They have multimedia on their site which makes for an interactive experience.

I call them “Grandfather,” because like me, they’ve been doing this for a couple of years and have watched their blog and presence grow. Scott is now involved in wine distribution, which takes him to the heart of the local wine world.

While there are lots of blogs on Vegas – the majority of which aren’t even in Vegas – we are pretty much the only ones reporting on wine and food in our local area. Writing and reporting about wine and food in this town can be a full-time career because of the 24-hour-a-day activity!

So stay tuned to the local blogs. We’re doing this out of love for blogging, love for wine and food, and most of all, love for the town that we have chosen to call home. It’s Vegas, Baby!
