Guest Authors Wanted!

May 11, 2008 by vegasrenie · 1 Comment

wine authors wantedWhile I’m recovering from my upcoming medical “procedure,” I’d like to give the opportunity to anyone who’d like to write about their wine adventures, wine collections, wine travels, or other wine and/or food-related topics to do so on this site.

I’m the first to admit that this site *is* all about me. However, it really isn’t all about me. It’s also about my relationships with the wine people and businesses in the Las Vegas, Henderson, Paso Robles, Boulder City, and Online areas. One thing I’ve discovered in the course of the last couple of years is that since I’m only one person, it is impossible for me to cover every wine-related event or situation. Although I’ve certainly tried.

So I figured that this would be a wonderful opportunity for those who are wine-centric in their thinking and who would like to write, but who don’t want to start their own website or blog to do so here. So if you’re interested in doing something like this, please contact me via the contact form or directly by email. Here are a few guidelines:

Not Always Wine - Back to Bryce Canyon

May 8, 2008 by vegasrenie · Leave a Comment

Sandstone Chimney, Kodachrome BasinWhile this site is all about the wine, sometimes I like to change things up a little. But fear not - it’s well worth the experience.

Two years ago April, Michael and I went to Bryce Canyon. I had been there a few years earlier and remembered the beauty and majesty of it. But my memory had failed me because seeing it again took my breath away.

Bryce Canyon is a national park located in southern Utah. It is about a three hour drive from Las Vegas (more or less, depending on how lost you get), taking 15N.

Named after Mormon settler Ebenezer Bryce, Bryce Canyon is actually a series of amphitheaters/canyons cut into the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The national park ranges in elevation from approximately 8,000 feet to over 9,000 feet at the southern end. There are very strange formations called hoodoos and are the creation of wind and water erosion over eons of time. The natural orange and red hues that color these formations are the result of iron oxidizing within the rock. The only word to describe the experience of Bryce Canyon is “Spectacular.” Okay, maybe you can throw “Breathtaking” in there as well. Actually, there are no words.

We also went to Kodachrome Canyon and Zion National Park. There are a few pictures of those locations as well. As you go through the slideshow, you will see that the first few were taken when it was very overcast, but as the weekend went by, the sun finally came out and the colors are brilliant.

Here is a link to the pictures that I took. There are date stamps on a couple of them, but those stamps are incorrect. My camera was new and there were, well, *issues* from time to time. Please let me know what you think of these. It was a beautiful experience, and I’m so happy to share it with you. Enjoy!

Hizzoner and Vegas Wineaux!

April 28, 2008 by vegasrenie · 1 Comment

Oscar & MeA sudden flurry of errands found me at Trader Joe’s early Saturday morning, and who should be there promoting a small Health Fair, but Oscar Goodman, the “Happiest Mayor in the Universe” of Las Vegas! Of course I had to take full advantage and chat with hizzoner. (It was really much more complicated than this since I didn’t have my camera with me and had an advanced case of bed hair. But that was an epic by itself).City of Las Vegas

Oscar has always been gracious and ebullient with his constituency and of course, that day was no exception. Read more
